Drawlines Misfits: LoveCraft Country

It’s rare nowadays to find something different out there in the entertainment industry. We went from one streaming service to now seven or eight. We need more shows and movies to fill in these spots than ever before.

Lovecraft Country is a 2016 dark fantasy horror novel by Matt Ruff, exploring the conjunction between the horror fiction of H. P. Lovecraft and racism in the United States during the era of Jim Crow laws, as experienced by Black science-fiction fan Atticus Turner and his family.

Though the joke of the show is H. P. Lovecraft who was a racist constantly mentioning his bigoted theories. The main characters of the show are black americans who end up fighting not only racism on their own front but also the supernatural.

I’ve read articles about other people’s thoughts about the show but failed to see their points. Some asked the question: Why haven’t the main characters that mention famous names, like Jesse Owens (first black american to win 4 gold medals at the Olympics), throughout black history meet these people on the show. But my question is, why bring famous names into the show? The show isn’t about them it’s about the main characters and their adventures. I never got to meet famous actors that I’ve seen on tv or in movies in my life. I like that they didn’t involve their characters at the front lines of racism but instead had their own issues with racism to deal with and mentions those famous names as references to that point in time. That the famous black americans we know today echoed their voices for freedom reaching the show and characters through newspaper, TV, and radio of those days. Trust me racism wasn’t scarce back then it was around every corner.

For the supernatural aspect of the show. I’m just saying, it wouldn’t have hurt if they mention the name Winchester in the show! The villains of the show are white americans and their families who owned slaves, I don’t want to spoil too much of the story but I do agree with one point someone mentioned. They didn’t give enough time in the show to let the main characters and develop their backstories. They are too occupied with fighting the supernatural or racism.

I was hoping they would achieve that in the second season… If there was a second season. At&t who owns WarnerMedia that made HBO Max stopped the show. But the first season got 18 emmy nominations. So, ya, again At&t / WB / HBO fucked up… again! These guys messed up Justice League, Young Justice, it’s like the streaming service lost entertainment!
