Captain Marvel is coming out and they got some big hitters here like, BlockBuster! RadioShack! What you guys never heard of these stores? Circuit City? Go Read a book!! Yes, This movie is taking place in the 80s, maybe you new folk will learn about where your parents came from.

Before we get knee-deep in movie roomers we need to get into something a bit farther than the ’80s. Try the ’50s! Ya, that’s where we are going. The name Captain Marvel has a long and complicated history and I’m not even talking about within the Marvel Universe. The name Captain Marvel originally didn’t even belong to Marvel Comics (before Disney bought Marvel). I’m talking about that other Universe the one with Superman. Yes, DC Comics!

See, DC comics did not own the name either, the name was created by a company called Fawcett Comics for a character that you know as Shazam. Fawcett was sued by DC in the 1950s after DC claimed Captain Marvel was too similar to Superman. Fawcett stopped publishing superhero comics altogether, allowing Marvel to acquire the rights to the Captain Marvel name, but unlike in the 2019 movie, the first character to use it was not Carol Danvers, it was a Skrull…Ya! In the comics, Carol Dancers’ superhero name before Captain Marvel was Ms. Marvel, and for those youngsters that don’t know. Carol Danvers fell into a coma because of an X-man. Rogue, a character that can borrow your memories and abilities. She touched Ms. Marvel, now Captain Marvel, to long and permanently obtained her flying and strength abilities.

That was the gist of it but I want to make sure you have all the resources to really find out what all this mess was about. Here is a Wikipedia page that tells the whole story. I suggest you read this first, just the first section: Captain Marvel (DC Comics) After that look into the Marvels version Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics). There is a good reason for this order. Technically Captain Marvel the artwork went from Fawcett Comics to DC Comics and then Fawcett gave up the name of that character to Marvel. From there you can see in the comic’s storyline where Captain Marvel was formed in the Marvel universe and how the name progressed over the years and at the same time DC comics removed the name but kept the character itself and just changing the character’s name that does not resemble Marvel comics.

*Now to spoil a bit of the history, Wikipedia says that Mar-vell was a Kree, no, he was a Skrull undercover as a Kree that liked Earth and hid under the name of Captain Marvel.

Wow, if that was confusing enough!! Let’s move on to the movie, which takes place in the ’80s. I think this is the first movie that includes a serious superpower. Captain Marvel is a very strong character now can she beat Thor? I’m not to sure. I guess it would depend on which one we are comparing each other too. Captain Marvel in the comics can not beat Thor. But Captain Marvel in the movies, powered by what looks like one of the infinity stones can if you ask me.

Nick Fury and Phil Coulson are young agents doing their jobs till Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) just busts into a BlockBuster… seriously young people, Google it! It doesn’t look like the scratches on Nick Fury’s eye are there maybe they’ll tell us how that happened? And it seems that the Skrulls are involved. The way they presented her abilities they look great. If this movie is set up the same as the others then I already know this movie will be good.
