I’ve been doing this photography thing for a while now… Why is this business even a business?

Negatives
It’s stupid! You hire people to record the most important moment in your life but you treat them like dogs. First, the price for the work is always challenged and I get it, it’s the work of the sale. But if my portfolio is what attracted you to make the phone call why would you try to cut my prices? Those prices is what I get for doing the work you see in the portfolio that you want in your photo album and / or video. Cutting my price just makes me not care as much about the work I do.

Some vendors dont feed you. Which i dont understand one bit. In an article on Brides.com, wedding planner Sandy Malone posted the question, Which Wedding Vendors Do You Have To Feed At Your Wedding? Sandy suggests in her post that the wedding planning team (who will be there from sun up to sun down), should be fed. But she then states that, for the other vendors, unless it is contractually obligated, the answer is no.

I’ll tell you one thing. I’m glad my friends and family never heard of that website she is on! I’ll be very clear here. All my workers will get fed. It’s also placed in our contract. If we do not get fed for any reason the client will get charged an extra $150 per person, If that person that has not gotten fed wants to go to the closest diner or fast food joint to get food during the wedding event it will be the fault of the client that footage was recorded.

Now, I dont understand why venues don’t back vendors in this matter. I really do hope venues read my article. Do you not understand how much free marketing you can get for your restaurant, hotel, and venue from the vendor? As a photographer myself, I can promote the location in professionally edited shots. Professionally edited social media marketing. Word of mouth.
