The Last of Us is a 2013 action-adventure survival horror video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It has the best emotional beginning ever in games, that quickly connects you to the main character.
You take on a role of a smuggler (voice actor Troy Baker) tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie (voice actress Ashley Johnson), across a post-apocalyptic United States. The Last of Us is played from a third-person perspective. Players use firearms and improvised weapons and can use stealth to defend against hostile humans and cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated strain of the Cordyceps fungus.
There is an online multiplayer mode, up to eight players engage in cooperative and competitive gameplay. We never really tried it only cause… it’s a story-based game. Why would we try to play a multiplay fighting game in a story-based game? Metal Gear tried that, didn’t like it too much. For this article, we will just focus on the main aspects of the game. But I will say this, they should make an Uncharted movie, no?
It was released for the PlayStation 3 in June 2013, and for the PlayStation 4 in July 2014. Upon release, it received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its narrative, gameplay, visuals, sound design, characterization, and depiction of female characters. The Last of Us became one of the best-selling video games of all time. The game won year-end accolades, including multiple Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, critics, and game award ceremonies, and is considered one of the greatest video games ever made.
The sequel, The Last of Us Part II, was announced in December 2016 and is scheduled for release on May 29, 2020. If the game is as good as the first one then this will be a moneymaker for this business. In fact, we have video of some scenes and gameplay and it looks like Naughty Dog is about to win a bunch of new awards!! The gameplay is very fluent and the free-roaming and the fight scenes merge so well together. In the first game, the landscape kind of tells you when the villains are going to present themselves versus the next cut scene. In The Last of Us Part II I have to say it’s pretty perfect, you can’t tell to much on the tech and coding side of the game cause you are so caught up on the beautiful graphics, sounds, and interactions with the environment.
Everything seems to be falling into place for this story-based game to be put in a live movie or TV show. Apparently, new news says that HBO wants to make a series on The Last of Us, the hugely popular and critically acclaimed survival horror game.
The HBO show will be written and produced by Craig Mazin — who recently created HBO’s hit Chernobyl series — and Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the original game. While the show will be based on the first game, it could expand to cover material from the upcoming sequel down the line.
