Netflix at it again with another original series. With their huge success with Marvel and Netflix originals Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, the online streaming service is giving cable networks like HBO and AMC a run for their money — and they’ve only just begun. Netflix is adding even more original programming to its lineup. This article we are talking about a 10 episode show called Altered Carbon a cyberpunk series from author Richard K. Morgan.

First and foremost, make sure you take advantage of Amazon and their audio books or, if you are like me, go to Barns and Nobels, buy the book and read it before watching the show. The original idea and story will always be better than the movie/TV Show. Just saying, anyways back to Netflix and their awesomeness! In the story people can empty their memories into a new body so they can live forever. The memories are stored in “cortical stacks” in a person’s spinal column, are transferred into a new body. While some people switch bodies on the regular, others only transfer bodies once or twice.

Altered Carbon is set 500 years in the future. Humanity has surpassed Earth and has colonized several planets outside our own galaxy. Takeshi Kovacs, I believe that’s the name of the main character, is an elite former United Nations soldier. But he, like other soldiers in his world, has to deal with the effects of transferring from one sleeve to another on the regular.

Takeshi Kovacs, a former soldier known as an “Envoy”, went rogue and works as a mercenary and detective for various clients around the solar system. In Altered Carbon, Kovacs is tasked with finding out why a wealthy elite killed himself and had all his memory data banks erased, essentially causing “perma-death” with no chance forever being restored.

The book, which was first published in the UK in 2002, is a blend of sci-fi, cyberpunk, detective crime, and was adapted well for television audiences… I wonder if Drawlines Misfits presents there indie comic series”The Blood of War” to Netflix they can have there own show as well. And would it be a cartoon or a live-action?

That actually would be some interesting questions. Which program would you go for, for those that have a story to tell, HBO, AMC, WB, or Netflix? And would you make it a show or movie? And would you make it a cartoon? All good questions, but hard to decide.
